The federal government wants EV Adoption at a very high rate over the next decade. Automakers have responded strongly and have announced plans to become carbon neutral by 2050 with a high level of electrification.
A shift in the primary source of fuel for transportation from gasoline to electricity will have a significant impact on the grid. During this transition from gasoline to electricity, it will be important to assess which parts of the country will lead the way and which parts will have time to allow the grid to catch up. Even within a utility service area, it will be important to assess which regions will require immediate action to improve transmission and distribution systems to keep the grid from failing.
Despite the slow downs in EV sales over the last few months, EV adoption continues to be at all time highs and are projected to grow. As of 2024, it will no longer suffice to assess EV adoption nationally, the adoption rate, the charging profiles and vehicles in operation must be assessed on micro-geographies. This will provide the most optimal solution for grid improvements.
